Ganesha Chaturthi marks the Birth of Lord Ganesha which falls on the Hindu month Bhadra. It is also considered as the day when Lord Ganesha comes to earth to give his blessings to the devotees. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with pomp and vigour throughout India especially in the southern states of India.  Lord Ganesha is the eldest son to God Shiva and Parvathi. Bermuda grass (or) Arugampul Archana at Pillayarpatti temple

Arugampul is of great significance to Lord Ganesha. Scriptures say Once Lord Ganesha destroyed a demon named Anal Asura by swallowing him. Anal asuran is known for emitting fire. He killed and scared people by emitting enormous amount of fire. Lord Ganesha killed him and protected the people from him by swallowing the giant.  But soon after swallowing Lord Ganesh couldn’t tackle the excessive heat in his body.
