Kutralanathar Temple Puja -Kutralam

 

Famous, a conch shaped Kutralanathar shrine located in Kutralam, Tirunelveli with the main deity Kutralanathar appears in the form of Lord Shiva is Swayambumurthi with his consort Kuzhalvai mozhi in the form of Goddess Parvati . Saint Gnanasambandar is Saivas by birth express the beauty of this shrine in his poem Devaram and it is also called Thirukooda malai.

 

Chitrasabhai - Kutralanathar Temple  

This shrine is one of sangam temple which has Kurumbala tree as a divine Property founded by the chola King Kochchenganan under the rule of Aoi Andren. This shrine has historical event conversion of Vaishnava temple to conch shaped Siva temple by divine power of Sage Agasthya. Once Sage Agasthya wants to see the Marriage appearance of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in Himalayas. But huge crowd of devotees prevented him from get blessings from Lord Shiva and Lord Parvati. Baring the disappointment, he decided to create a temple for Lord Shiva by touching conch of Lord Vishnu made as temple with chakra as tower and worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in marriage attire. Even today, the fingerprints of sage Agasthya still seen on Kutralanathar which is incredible divine sense to devotees. This temple is one among the five dancing halls of Lord Shiva which is fascinating called as "Chithirasabhai". In this Lord Shiva appeared in Lord Natarajar posture while performing is cosmic dance on chitra Ambalam. It has copper plate roof and fascinating herb dye paintings includes Lord Vinayagar, Lord Murugan, Goddess Parvati, Goddess Meenkashi Amman, Lord Virabathirar depicting the images giving divine look on the walls of the shrine.

 

Significance of Inscriptions

The inscriptions found in the shrine refers to the Lord Kutralanathar and Goddess Parasakthi. Solar eclipse day arithmetic calculation is scripted in this shrine gives a wise knowledge of historians in Tamilnadu. Some other inscriptions explains the charity nature of Kings of different period charity to the people of Kingdom giving gold, money, animals for farming. There is a shrine for Lord Vallabha Ganapathi and Lord Muruga with consorts Goddess Valli and Goddess Deivanai. Sage Agasthya also has a shrine for himself blessess the devotees with peace, wealth and prosperity. Goddess Parvati shrine which is one among the 64 sakthi peetams located in festivity site called Tirikootamandapam which is prominent. The water from Kutralam falls directly into Shivalingas which is close to the waterfall gives the sacred look.

 

Grand Festivals

The significant festival is Aadi Amavasya celebrated by lighting thousands of glorious light giving divine look to devotees. Purattasi Navarathri is celebrated for Goddess Parasakthi in the between September and October. Bhrammotsavam is celebrated twice a year one in between the October and November and the another one is between March and April in this temple. Margazhi Tiruvadhurai occurs between December and January, chariot float festival falls between Janurary and February, Panguni Uthiram falls between March and April, Taandava Deepa Aradhanai are important celebrations in this shrine.

Temple priests conducted rituals from 6.00am to 12.00 pm and 4.30pm to 7.00pm.
