Aappudaiyar temple is lies in the shadow of Madurai Meenakshi Sundareswarar sanctuary .The Pandya Kings and the Royal Sethupathi rulers have made numerous commitments to this sanctuary. This temple is viewed as the second of the Tevara Stalams in the Pandya district of Tamilnadu.

The name "Aappudaiyaar" originates from the saying "Aappu" - a wedge that was erroneously revered as an issue by a Pandya ruler is said to have changed wonderfully into a Shivalingam. Shiva is likewise accepted to have marvellously brought on grains of sand to transform into rice amid the time of a crippling starvation, subsequently the name Anna Lingeswarar.

Aappudaiyaar Temple is a Shivasthalam situated at Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary is 1.5 km north of Madurai Meenakshi Sundareswarar kovil. The chief god here is Rishabeswarar.

There is a different adoration place for Goddess Kuravankamazhum Kuzhalammai. The sanctuary theertham is Rishaba theertham.

The claim to fame of this sanctuary is that on thePanguni Uththiram day the symbols of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar visit here from the Madurai Temple. Sage Sambandar is said to have celebrated this sanctuary through his pathigams.

Do maintain silence and recite your Istamantram to yourself inside the temple.
Do observe ancient custom and traditions while in Temple.
Do deposit your offerings in the hundi only

Do not come to Temple for any Purpose other than worshiping of God and Goddess
Do not smoke at Temple.
Do not consume alcoholic drinks at Temple
Do not Eat Non Vegetarian food in the Kshetram
Do not approach mediators for quick Dharshanam. It may cause inconvenient to others
Do not carry any weapon inside the temple
Do not wear any head guards like helmets ,caps ,turbans and hats inside the temple premises
