The Kasi Viswanath Temple is the first among all the Jyotirlingas of the country. Situated in the holy town of Varanasi, it is said to be the holy abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati on earth. A visit to this very ancient temple – that’s mentioned in the Skanda Purana – fetches blessings of the divine couple and salvation.  The unique feature of the temple is that devotees can perform ceremonies to the lord directly without the help of a priest. Lord Viswanath is all-merciful and kind and therefore the temple is also known as Abode of Bliss.  It is also known as the golden temple for its domes covered in pure gold. The Ganges flows in the region which has 64 bathing ghats and those taking a dip in it are purified of all sins.
 

 

Once Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu had an argument as to who is superior of the two. Lord Shiva intervened and pierced the three worlds with a striking force in the form of a huge column of light that had no beginning or end – the jyotirlinga. He manifested as jyotirlinga in 12 different locations and Kasi Vishwanath was the first of them all.

The unmarried are sure to enter into marital bond and the lord grants liberation from the cycle of birth and death. The ritual to Lord Vishwanath neutralizes the negative effects of all nine planets especially Saturn. The lord of Kashi when invoked relieves you from the cycle of birth and death.

  • Do contact Temple Devasthanam information centre for enquiry, temple information and for Pooja details etc.
  • Do reserve your travel and accommodation at Temple well in advance.
  • Do bath and wear clean clothes before you enter the temple.
  • Do concentrate on God and Goddess inside the temple.
  • Do maintain silence and recite your Istamantram to yourself inside the temple.
  • Do observe ancient custom and traditions while in Temple.
  • Do respect religious sentiments at Temple.Do deposit your offerings in the hundi only.



 

Don't s:

  • Do not come to Temple for any purpose other than worshipping of God and Goddess.
  • Do not smoke at Temple.
  • Do not consume alcoholic drinks at Temple.
  • Do not eat non-vegetarian food in the Kshetram.
  • Do not approach mediators for quick Darshanam. It may cause inconvenient to others.
  • Do not carry any weapon inside the temple.
  • Do not wear any head guards like helmets, caps, turbans and hats inside the temple premises.
  • Do not perform Sastanga Pranama inside the Sanctum Sanctorum.
  • Do not take much time while performing Sparsa Darshanam to God in Garbhagriha.
  • Do not buy spurious prasadams from street vendors.
  • Do not encourage beggars at Temple.
  • Do not spit or create nuisance in the premises of the temple.
