        Shailaputri or Parvathi in her early birth named as Sati who is the daughter Daksh Prajapati, she got married to Lord Shiva. But her father didn't like the appearance of Lord Shiva because he use to wear the skin of tiger, etc.


Daksh conducted an yagya in his palace, he invites all the Yogis, Devars etc but he didnt invite Lord Shiva. Sati could not abide with the activity of her father, so she decided to burn herself into the fire of the Holy Yagya to make her father about her feelings and she jumped into the holy fire and dead.

Later in her next birth she born as Parvathi daughter of Parvatraj (Himalaya). and she is one among the Nava Durgas. It is the small girl avatar of maa Durga.

      Maa Shailaputri Temple is located at A-40/11, Mariha Ghat, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh , India. People can travel to Varanasi and get Dharshan from Goddess Shailaputri.


Day-1: Shailaputri Devi:

        First day is Pratipada and was celebrated for the Goddess Shailaputri. Shail means Mountains and Putri means Daughter. She is also known with the names Parvati or Hemavathi or Bhagvatam. Shailaputri's immense importance and glories are endless. Parvathi makes the first journey towards Lord Shiva from the Muladarachaka because to beget Lord Shiva as like her Last Birth. 

So Yogi's keep their mind concentrated on Muladara on the first day of Navaratri. Shailaputri is the Muladhara Sakthi to be realized within self and sought for higher depths, in the Yogic meditation. Maa Shailaputri gives relief from the hurt of demon for her Devotees. 

Shailaputri is a divine lady, holding a trishul in her right and lotus flower in her left hand. She rides on bull (Nandi). She blessess us all times and help her devoteed in the dfficult situation. She fulfils all the desires of her Devotees.




Color of the Navaratri- Day 1(13.10.2015):


Colour for this Day one to celebrate Maa Shailaputri on Oct 13th 2015 is calculated as Red. Devotees wear Red color dress and pray to Maa Shailaputri to get flourish.


Prasadam:

Devotees prepare some naivedyam to God. Likewise on this first day of Navaratri Sweet boondi and chickpea are offered as Naivedyam.


Mantra to chant:


Om Devi Shailputryai Namah (Chant this mantra for 108 times).

Meaning:


I worship Goddess Shailputri to fulfill my wishes, who is adorned with crescent moon on her head, rides on a bull, carrying a trishul and is illustrious.

 


Do's:


  • Prefer Fasting during Puja.
  • Visit nearby temple to get blessings from mata Durga.
  • Do Shailaputri Homa to attain power from Goddess.
  • Do Pooja and Vrat for Goddess to invite her home.
  • Do Meditation and think of Goddess Durga to lead a happy life.
  • Offer Pure Ghee. This blesses us with disease free life.  



Don'ts:


  • Don't eat bitter or non-veg food.
  • Don't eat before doing puja in the evening, Eat after 6pm.
  • Don't keep any broken statue in golu area.
  • Don't use Leather items this period.
  • Don't indulge in any violent activities during puja days.
