About:


      Mata Parvathi when she was in the penance for beget Lord Shiva for several years. She renounced all her comforts of the palace. Her penance continued for several years. She came across many hurdles like severe heat, cold, rain, drought etc, but She rather gave up her penance. Her body was turned into a mere skeleton.


After that Brahma gave a boon to beget Lord Shiva and thereby she completes her penance. Her skin turned into blackish. Lord Shiva came and accepted to marry her. He washed her vigorously with Sacred water Ganga and cleansed her and she turned into white and glorious.


Prasadam:


      Chakkara Pongal is prepared as Naivedhyam and it could be offered as prasadam to the nearby people relatives and friends. It can also offer as prasadam for the visitor of Golu in your home.


Temple:


     Mahagauri Temple is located at K-24/34 Panchaganga Ghat, Varanasi. Devotees can reach to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and travel to get dharshan from Mahagauri.


Day-1: Mahagauri Devi:


      Eighth day is Durga Ashtami and was celebrated for the Goddess Mahagauri. This form of Durga is believed to be that she is the form of Parvathi. The name specifies that Maha means Great and Gauri means White. This form of Durga is the purest form. After cleansing he from the dust and mud which was covered on her during the penance.


This form of Durga is four-armed and she rides on a bull or white elephant. She carries a trishul and a damaro and two hands are in blessing posture. Mother fulfills all the desireof her devotees. Maa  Mahagauri blesses with all kinds of merits to her devotees who worship with pure mind and perfection.


She showers her devotees with all kinds of prosperity. She enables them to enjoy prosperity and pleasures here in this world and salvation hereafter.




Color of the Navaratri - Day 8 (20.10.2015):


    Color for the day 8 on oct 20th 2015 which is celebrated for Mahagauri is calculated as Pink. Devotees wear Pink color dress and do pujas to Goddess Mahagauri.

Meaning:


Goddess Mahagauri who rides on white bull, wear pure white clothes, giver of happiness, be propitious to me.


 

 



Do's
:

  •   Do Mahagauri Homa to attain power from Goddess.
  •   Prefer Fasting during Puja.
  •  Visit nearby temple to get blessings from mata Durga.
  •   Do Pooja and Vrat for Goddess to invite her home.
  •  Do Meditation and think of Goddess Durga to lead a happy life.
  •   Offer Cocunut. This brings Success.


 Don'ts:


  • Don't eat bitter or non-veg food.
  • Don't eat before doing puja in the evening, Eat after 6pm.
  • Don't keep any broken statue in golu area.
  • Don't use Leather items this period.
  • Don't indulge in any violent activities during puja days.
