How to reach:

This sivasthalam temple is located 23 Kms to the east from Virudhachalam. One has to travel by bus on the Virudhachalam - Buvanagiri route and get down at Valaya Madevi. A branch road from Valayamadevi goes to this sivasthalam which is about 3 Kms. from Valayamadevi. The temple is located at the confluence of two rivers Vellaru and Manimutharu.



Nerikkattunayagar Temple is situated in  Tirukkoodalaiyattrur , Cuddalore ,TamilNadu. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one among 275 Shiva Sthalams.

As per the legend Siva is said to have intercepted Sundarar's path and asked him to visit this shetram.The temple deity of this  Shivasthalam  is Lord Nerikkattunayagar (Shiva) along with Goddess Purikuzhalambigai.

The temple has two teerthams namely Sangu teertham and Manimutharu. Sundarar is said to have praised the lord with his pathigams.

Festivals:

The annual brahmotsavam is celebrated in the Tamil month of Masi.  The main festival is the annual Brahmotsavam is celebrated in the month of Maasi (mid February ? mid March). Navratri, Thaipusam and Arudra Darisanam are also celebrated in great manner. The temple is at a distance of 23 km to the east of Vriddhachalam and 25 km from Chidambaram.

  • Do not wear any head guards like helmets, caps, turbans and hats inside the temple premises.
  • Do not perform Sastanga Pranama inside the Sanctum Sanctorum.
  • Do not take much time while performing Sparsa Darshanam to God in Garbhagriha.
  • Do not buy spurious prasadams from street vendors.
  • Do not encourage beggars at Temple.
  • Do not spit or create nuisance in the premises of the temple.
