This temple lies in Thirunaangur of Tanjore district in Tamil Nadu. It's about 5 miles away from Seerkazhi. Bus facilities are also available.

As the perumal of this place gave the Thirupaarkadal and stands as Rama the greatest among the men so named as Purushothaman along with his wife Purushothama Naayaki - Periya piratti, this place is called as Thiru Vann Purushothamam.

As Lord Narayana gave generously the Thirupaarkadal to Upamanyu Maharishi, the theertham is known as Thirupaarkadal Theertham.Sanjeevi Mooligai (An herb) saved Lord Rama itself. So inorder to indicate this, the Vimaanam of this place is named as Sanjeevi Vigraha Vimaanam.

The term Purushothamam means the person who is best among Bhaktar, Muktar, Nitheyar and Purushar (ie) among Devotees, the person who had attained eternity, the soul of the human being always lives with the god.The Utsavar Purushotaman found in this sthalam is said to be so beautiful and can easily attract everyones attention and heart towards him.

Thiru Vanpurushothamam or Purushotama Perumal Temple is dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu located in Thirunangur, a village in the outskirts of Tiruchirappalli in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Azhwar saints from the 6th - 9th centuries AD. It is one of the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Purushottaman and his consort Lakshmi as Purushottamavalli.

It is one among the eleven divyadesams of Thirunangur Tirupathis and is closely associated with Thirumangai Alvar. The temple is open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m and has four daily rituals at various times of the day.

The Thirumangai Azhwar Mangalasasana Utsavam celebrated annually during the Tamil month of Thai is the major festival of the temple during which the festival images of the eleven Thirunangur Tirupathis are brought on mount designed like Garuda, called Garuda Vahana, to Thirunangur.

Lord Perumal graces the devotees in a sitting form.  The Vimana above the sanctum is of Indra Vimana design.  There are shrines for Sri Jyoti Anjaneya, Azhwars, Acharya Ramanuja, Saint Nammazhwar and Sri Vishvaksena.  Lord Venugopala appears on a pillar sculpture.

  • Do not perform Sastanga Pranama inside the Sanctum Sanctorum.
  • Do not take much time while performing Sparsa Darshanam to God in Garbhagriha.
  • Do not buy spurious prasadams from street vendors.
  • Do not encourage beggars at Temple.
  • Do not spit or create nuisance in the premises of the temple.
