Rudhra Kodeeswarar is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thirukazhukundram, Tamilnadu. The temple has a traditional South Indian style, with features of a four-tier architecture, with delightful entrance called 'Rajagopuram'. Presiding deity is called as Lord Rudra Kodeeswarar and Goddess is called as Pennin Nallal ( Thirupurasundari). The temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam his Devaran hyms. Thirunavukarasu Nayanar has referred about this temple in his devaram. The temple is situated at the foot of the hill near Sangu Theertham. Rudhra Kodesswarar temple is also known as Easwaran Temple or Rudran Temple. The Rudrakoteeswarar Temple, the name of the Goddess is Rudrani is also known as Abhirami Nayaki.
 

History
According to legancy, the celestial beings who could not bear the torture of the Kodi Asuras who emitted from Kashyapa rishi, pray Lord Siva, pleasing the devotion and prayer of kashyapa rishi loosed is Kodi Rudras from his chest who killed the kodi asuras. The Rudras, after finishing the task assigned to them, worshipped the Lord to atone the sin of killing kodi asuras. Later kodi Rudras were pardoned and got merged in his Lord Shiva heart.
Story behind the buried Nandhi:
 

Once Lord Vishnu came to see Lord Shiva in the form of Garudan, When Garudazhwar was waiting outside, before the Lord Vishnu came out, Lord Nandikeswarar blew his breath over Lord Garudazhwar and the feathers of Lord Garudazhwar fell off. After that, the Lord Shiva then punished Nandikeswarar by making him sink to the ground. When Nandhi’s body started to sink into the ground, at the behest of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva stopped Lord Nandikeswarar at that point.
 

Story Behind The Reclined Position Of Ambal
Ambal is also known as Goddess Abirami, has calmed down Goddess Kali Devi, who was brimming with anger. Hence, Goddess Abirami is appearing in a slightly reclined position.

Significance
The Rudhran Temple is older than the Vedhagreeswarar temple. As per rule, one has to first visit Rudhran temple and then only the Vedhagreeswarar. Main deity of this temple is Lord Shiva as Suyambu Moorthi. Kodi (One Crore) Rudhra devas have worshipped this deity and got relieved of their curse. Hence, the main deity is called as Sri Rudhra Kodeeswarar. Goddess also known as Goddess Abirami, has calmed down Goddess Kali Devi, who was brimming with anger. Hence, Goddess Abirami is appearing in a slightly reclined position. Devotees offering Rudrakoteeswarar at this temple continuously during 16 Pradoshams, would rid one of ailments of heart diseases, hypertension, diabetes and also problems caused by planetary changes. The temple entrance has Nandi with his consort, Goddess Suyaprabha Devi on the wall. Sthala Vriksham of this Temple is Vilva tree (each leaf containing nine petals) and Theertham of this Temple is Rudhra Theertham (situated inside the temple complex). This temple is auspicious for worshipping the Lord Shiva during the days of Pradhosham (thirteenth day of every fornight in Hindu calendar). All the annual functions pretaining to Lord Shiva temple are being celebrated in this temple.
