Sikkal Singaravelavar Murugan Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Muruga located in Nagapattinam, Tamilnadu. The temple has a traditional South Indian style, with features of with delightful entrance called 'Rajagopuram'. The speciality of the temple is Lord Shiva as well as Lord Vishnu under the same shrine. The temple is 83rd if considered the Devara Sthalam series built in the King Chola. The temple was built by Aditya Chola King along with banks of the river Kaveri.
As per legacy, It is believed that the temple must have been built during the Chola King rule in ancient India and inscriptions from the Chola period, in this temple, spread over two acres or more, as a testimony to this claim. As per another legacy, The temple was built by Muchukunda Cholan, who is associated with the Tiruvarar legacy. Main deity of the temple is Lord Singaravelan. As per myth, Rishi Vasishta had created a Shivalingam out of butter which was made from the divine cow, Kamadhenu's milk. After performing the puja, he saw that the Shivalingam was stuck at the place and could not be shifted. This gave the place its name as 'Sikkal'. It is believed that Rishi Vashishta and Rishi Viswamitra have both worshipped the Lord in this temple.

The temple is famous for fragrance was once a Jasmine forest, devotees believe Goddess Kamadenu with cow's trunk, lives here, giving the place of worship a sense of divine spirituality, where once Goddess Kamadenu was cursed by Lord Shiva for having ate meat has cleared her Sins by having a holy dip in this temple pond and took the blessings from Lord Shiva. Doing Puja at this temple, clear present and past sins, bad karmas, bless devotees with Purity of mind and thought, wealth and prosperity. The presiding deity in this temple is Lord Singaravelar (Lord Muruga). Lord Navaneetheswarar consorts with Goddess Nedum Kanni Amman (Goddess Parvathi) are also placed in this temple. It is one of the rare traditional hindu templee that have both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu deities in the same complex. The temple is one of the two hundred seventy five Paadal Petra Sthalams(Lord Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medievel Devaram. The moolavar presiding deity his manifestation as Lord Navaneetheswarar and Lord Vennai Lingeswarar consorts with Goddess Parvathi is known as Velnadunkanni. Devotees offer prayers with the combined blessing bestowed with enormous wealth, peace, harmony and never ending prosperity, eliminating all bad and evil effects and negativeness from planetary positioning, free from disease and bad bondage's.
