Once, when Lord Shivan and Devi Paarvathi had a Quarrel between them and as a result Lord Shivan gave Sabham to Paarvathi. And, after getting pleased by Paarvathi, Lord Shivan asked her to make Tapas by standing in one leg.

After satisfied with the severe tapas of Paarvathi, Lord Shivan accepted her once again. When Kamakshi and Sri Lakshmi were taking bath in Kama Koshtam, Emperumaan saw them by hiding behind a pillar and hearing what they weer speaking.

Parvathi, who resembled as "Kamakshi" found that Sriman Narayanan is watching them and so she gave the punishment by first making him stand and then to sit and finally to Kidantha stage.

Becaue of this, he is found in all the 3 sevas (i.e) Nindra, Irundha and Kidantha seva on the North side of the pond of this koil.Since, Sriman Narayanan saw them taking bath without knowing them, parvathi kept him the name as "Kalvan" and this Divyadesam is called as "Thirukkalvanoor".

Thirukalvanoor Sree Adhi Varaha Perumal Temple -  When the Asuras and Devas churning Parkadal to obtain the Nectar, Aalahala Visham, the poison came out first which turned the colour of almighty from his Swedhavarna Thirukkolam into Dark and Dull.

Later Goddess Mahalakshmi came out of the ocean with her Golden Complexion which made the almighty to feel bad that he was not match to her and cursed her to loose all her charming.

Lakshmi became Aroopvavadhi and came down to Kanchipuram where she was asked by Kamtchi Amman to remain next to her in Gayathri Mandapam so that the devotees who receive Kumkum as prasadham in her shrine will offer some portion to her which will regain her beauty and in turn she was asked to bless the devotees with prosperity.

Once when Goddess Lakshmi Devi and Goddess Parvathi was thretened by the asuras, the almighty took all his 3 Standing, Sitting and Sleeping Postures to destroy the Asuras. The Kshetram is known as Sathyavradha Kshetram.

Goddess Lakshmi acted accordingly as she was advised. In the course of time she regained all her beauty and became Soundhrya Lakshmi. Meanwhile Paranthaman felt very bad that HE had cursed the consort and realized that without her HE can not exist.

He went for a search all over and at last HE found her in the Gayathri Mandapam at Kanchi. By seeing the almighty who came in search of her, Goddess became so happy and in love she called HIM as "Kalva? means the Lovable Thief.

Hence the place is being worshipped as Thirukalvanoor, the One and Only Divyadesam among the 108 Divyadesam where the almighty is seen in a very small form as Adhivarahar.
