Sri Kalyana Pasupatheeswarar Temple is situated in Karur, TamilNadu . This holy shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one among 275 Shiva Sthalams.

Sri Kalyana Pasupathinathar Temple or Pasupatheeswarar Temple devoted to Lord Shiva in the form of Pasupathinathar is considered as the first and foremost of the seven Shiva Shrines of the Kongu region.

It is said that the holy cow Kamadhenu worshipped Lord Shiva at this place and hence the deity got the name Aanilaiappar (Aa means cow) and then Pasupathinathar which means 'Lord of all living beings'.

Lord Shiva as a Linga slightly leaning is a swayambumurthy on a square Avudayar-seat. The rays of Sun fall on the Lord for five days in the month of Masi-February-March.

Devotees pray in this temple for various wishes.  They pray for mental peace, child and wedding boon, employment opportunity, progress in trade, promotions etc.  It is believed that Lord Pasupatheeswarar bestows his devotees desires.

Lord Brahmma became proud of his position as Creator of the world. To teach him a lesson, Lord Shiva made divine cow Kamadenu come to Earth through Narada to perform penance on Him in this place, a forest of Vanji trees then.

A divine voice instructed Kamadenu to worship the Linga hidden in an anthill there. Following the instructions, Kamadenu was pouring its milk on Lord in the anthill. As its foot hit the Linga in, it began to bleed.

Lord told Kamadenu that He would be worshipped as Pasupathi Nathar as the cow (Kamadenu) worshipped Him and that Kamadenu would do the creation work. Kamadenu began the job that wiped of the pride of Brahmma. Merciful Lord returned the creation job to Brahmma then and took Kamadenu with Him.

The main festivals of this temple are Brahmotsavam in the month of Panguni (March-April, which include Soundranayaki Ambal?s marriage) and Arudra Darshan or Thiruvadirai in the month Margazhi (December-January).
