Cherugudi Sukshmapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Cherugudi in Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, India.While Mother Parvathi and Lord Shiva were playing dice, luck was turning to Mother.  At this stage, Lord Shiva suddenly disappeared.

Shocked Ambica began to search for Lord and finally came to this place dense with Vilwa trees.  She made a Linga in sand and worshipped.  Lord appeared before Mother and said that He was planning to lose the game in her favour to show that husbands should develop the quality of yielding to spouse to make family every happy and auspicious.

Mother came to be known as Mangalambikai and Lord Mangalanathar.Tuesdays in Masi month-February-March are suggested for Mars worship when special pujas are performed here with Vilwa leaves and Mangala Theertham-water from a well-for the reunion of couples.  Those afflicted by Mars problems visit the temple in large numbers for relief.

Temple Timings:

The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m

Temple Festivals:

Maha Shivrathri in February-March and Tirukarthikai in November-December are the festivals celebrated in the temple

The place is named Sukshma Pureeswaram as couples separated earlier had a re-union here.  The temple is praised by Saint Tirugnana Sambandar in his Thevaram hymns. 

Sun God, Sage Vishwamitra and Gandharvas had worshipped Lord in this temple.Lord Shiva in the temple is a swayambumurthy Linga made of sand.
 
Planet Mars-Angaraka had his curse relieved in this temple.  Those under adverse aspects of this planet will overcome delays in their marriages and the sick will be cured, if they worship him in the temple.
 
The Navagraha-9 planets-mandap in the temple is different.  Child Saint Tirugnana Sambandar who sang the Kolaru Pathigam a prayer to Lord Shiva with Mother for relief from the adverse aspects of planets and other natural dangers people face in life is along with the planets.

It is the faith of the devotees that praying to Lord and Mother would ensure all auspiciousness in family

  • Do Contact Temple Devasthanam information center for inquiry ,temple information and for pooja details etc.
  • Do reserve your travel and accommodation at temple well in advance.
  • Do bath and wear clean clothes before you enter the temple
  • Do concentrate on God and Goddess inside the temple.
  • Do maintain silence and recite your Istamantram to yourself inside the temple.
  • Do observe ancient custom and traditions while in Temple.
  • Do deposit your offerings in the hundi only

  • Do not come to Temple for any Purpose other than worshiping of God and Goddess
  • Do not smoke at Temple.
  • Do not consume alcoholic drinks at Temple
  • Do not Eat Non Vegetarian food in the Kshetram
  • Do not approach mediators for quick Dharshanam. It may cause inconvenient to others
  • Do not carry any weapon inside the temple
  • Do not wear any head guards like helmets ,caps ,turbans and hats inside the temple premises
