Sree Veeraragava Swamy Temple in Thiru Evvul familiarly worshipped as Thiruvallur  is located around 50 KM from Chennai which is a  Punyavarttha Kshetram and  Veeksharanya Kshetram.

The almighty here is blessing as Veeraragava Swamy, Vaidhya Veera Ragavan and Evvul Kidanthan facing East in his Sleeping Posture Reclining on Adhiseshan with his one hand stretched out towards Brahma who has emerged from his Nabhi ( Umbilicus) as he is explaining Pranava Mantra to him.

His other hand is pointing downwards with his Palm placed on the head of the Sage Saalihothran as he is granting him Abhayam. Thayar is blessing as Sree Kanagavalli Thayar as well Vasumadhi. Temple Tank is  Hrutthapavinasa Theertham and the Vimnam is Vijayakoti Vimanam.

Once there was a King named Thileeba Maharaja ruled the place called Dharmasenapuram nearer to this temple. He was childless alongwith his wife Gauthami underwent a penance towards Goddess Mahalakshmi to get blessed with a child. Lakshmi Devi herself born as a child to the king who was named as Vasumadhi.

As she grew older, one day she met a person named Veera Narayanan and fell in love with him. By hearing this the King enquired about him and got an assurance from him that once he get married he will take care of Vasumadhi throughout his life time. The king was impressed and accepted for the marriage. But surprisingly once the marriage formalities got completed, both the bride and the groom went up to Sri Veeraraghava Sannidhi in the temple, Climbed on to Couch of Adhisesha and  merged with the ALMIGHTY.

Sri Veeraraghava Swami Temple or Thiruevvul, also called Thiruvallur is a temple near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Moolavar (deity) here is Lord Veeraraghava Perumal with his Thayaar (consort) Kanakavalli . It is one of the 108 Divya desam.

The Lord here is in reclining posture on Sesha facing east and his right hand blessing the devotee. Lord Brahma is also seen meditating on a lotus from the Lord's navel.

This is the most important Divya Desa in the Thondai Mandalam region.   The sacred spring in the temple is considered more sacred than holy Ganga and a dip cleanses the devotee of even thinking of a sin.  Six pujas, as per rules are performed in the temple at fixed times each day.

The temple has a mention in Markandeya Purana. Abishek to Lord is performed only with perfumed oil.  Lord is in a reclining form  on a five feet peeta, 15 feet long.  There are shrines for Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, Chakkarathazhwar.  This is an ancient temple built during the period of Pallavas.

Abishek to Lord is performed with perfumed oil only. Hruthapadhani spring is considered more sacred than the holy Ganga and it is believed that it cleanses devotees even from the very thinking of a sin.

  • Do not approach mediators for quick Darshanam. It may cause inconvenient to others.
  • Do not carry any weapon inside the temple.
  • Do not wear any head guards like helmets, caps, turbans and hats inside the temple premises.
  • Do not perform Sastanga Pranama inside the Sanctum Sanctorum.
  • Do not take much time while performing Sparsa Darshanam to God in Garbhagriha.
  • Do not buy spurious prasadams from street vendors.
  • Do not encourage beggars at Temple.
  • Do not spit or create nuisance in the premises of the temple.
