Sri Vennaiyappar Temple is situated in Tirunelvennei ,Villupuram . This Siva Sthalams is dedicated to Lord Shiva . This Holy temple is one among 275 Shiva Sthalams and one of the Naadu Nadu Shiva Sthalams.

The legend has it that Parvati is said to have worshipped Siva in a fortress of butter. Siva is said to have danced here to enunciate the details of the Natya Sastram. The Vedas in the form of bamboo are said to have worshipped Shiva, hence the name Venuvanam.

God Shiva is known as Vennaiyappar, Sornagateswara and the female deity is known as Neelamalarkanni.Sundarar is said to have been reminded of the purpose of his life by Siva at this shetram, where he sang his first hymn 'Pittaa Pirai Soodi'.
