Thiruvilliputhoor Divya Desam is a popular 2000-year-old. Hindu temple and one of the 108 Divya Desams, the most important abodes of Lord Vishnu. It is the birthplace of two of the most important alvars(saints) in the Vaishnavite tradition: Periyazhvar and Andal.
The temple follows Thenkalai tradition of worship.The temple is in the town of Srivilliputtur, about 74 km from Madurai, India.
Srivilliputtur is a temple town and one of the 108 divya desams of Lord Sri Vishnu. To the devotees and vaishnavites, Srivilliputtur is synonymous with Lord Vishnu, Periyalwar and Andal.
It is an interesting place to any aesthetic person for enjoying the sculpture and ancient drawings in the temple. It gave Tiruppavai of Andal and Tirupallandu of Periyalvar- the hymns on Lord Vishnu to Tamil Literature.
The temple priests perform the pooja (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. Like other Vishnu temples of Tamil Nadu, the priests belong to the Vaishnavaite community, a Brahmin sub-caste.
The temple rituals are performed six times a day: Ushathkalam at 7 a.m., Kalasanthi at 8:00 a.m., Uchikalam at 12:00 p.m., Sayarakshai at 6:00 p.m.,Irandamkalam at 7:00 p.m. and Ardha Jamam at 10:00 p.m.
Sri Andal temple is placed close to Vadabathre Saayi temple. 20 Pandha Mandapam is situated in the entrance of Andal temple. After crossing along the left side, one can find the Kalyana Mandapam and after crossing this is the separate sannadhis for Sri Ramar, and Sri Srinivasa Perumal.
Then, we have to cross the Flag Pole (Kodi maram), a mandapam named "Madhavi Mandapam" can be seen and varutues of beautiful paintings of the Emperumaan can be seen. Next to it is the Mani Mandapam and then the Artha Mandapam and then the Moolavr sannadhi is situated.
In Moolavar Sannadhi, Sri Aranganathar having the instrument to ride the Chariot can be seen in Kalyana Kolam is placed along with Sri Andal and Garudan. In all the Vaishnava temples, Garudan is found in the opposite side of the perumal sannadhi, but only in this sthalam, Garuda is positioned along with the Thaayar.
A separate statue is kept for Sri Andal in the Flower Garden known as Nandhavanam, where she was born, which is on the North East direction of Sri Andal temple.Periyalwar sannadhi is situated on the North side of the temple and he is faced towards the south direction.
There are two floors in this temple. In the bottom floor (thalam), Sri Narashimhar and the 12 Alwars and Dasavatharam of Emperumaan are gracing the visitors. When going through the steps of the bottom floor, we can reach the upper floor where we can have Darshan of the Moolavar sannadhi, where Vadabadhara Saayi is giving His seva.In Artha Mandapam, Chakrathalwar, Sri Kannan and Allal Thavirtha piraan Utsavars are situatd.
